2022 Preview

After its second championship in four seasons, the Warriors make the jump into Class 3A, and will do so with a young squad.

Veteran coach Zeph Powell welcomes back 10 total starters from a year ago and is tasked with replacing the bulk of his linemen on each side of the ball. However, if the units are able to develop quickly, Amite should have a chance to compete well in their new classification.

On offense, the Warriors replace six starters from last season but return quarterback Jalen Robinson who helped lead his team to a state title win last season. Robinson returns over 1,800 yards of passing offense along with 33 touchdowns. Seniors Ashton Terrell and Lemar Harris will also play in contributing roles.

Defensively, senior Simeon Powell will be among the leaders to help mold starters in new positions along with veterans Jalen Vernon and Jeremy Robertson who are expected to anchor the line.

Amite's newest district opponents include Albany, Bogalusa, Jewel Sumner and Pine. Some contests to watch for are the Warriors; home contest against Kentwood and road trip to face defending Class 3A champion Sterlington.
