Archbishop Hannan senior Drew Timmons has been named the 2024-25 Louisiana Gatorade Player of the Year, capping off a remarkable high school basketball career.

The 6-foot-6, 215-pound forward/guard was instrumental in leading the Hawks to a 26-7 record and the Division II select State Championship. Timmons averaged 21.4 points, 9.5 rebounds, 2.4 assists, and 1.6 steals per game this season, finishing his career with 2,910 points and 1,491 rebounds. He shined in the title game, scoring 22 points and grabbing four rebounds in a 59-55 victory over Archbishop Shaw.

“Drew is a great kid, and he is clearly the best player in Louisiana this year that I’ve seen,” said Mike McGuire, head coach at Metairie Park Country Day. “He’s the reason for their success this year and, really, since he’s been in eighth grade. He’s smart, fundamentally sound, tough, and a great leader for them.”

A three-time first team All-State selection, Timmons also excelled off the court, maintaining an A average in the classroom. This fall, he will continue his basketball career at the United States Naval Academy.

Beyond his athletic and academic success, Timmons has made a significant impact in the community. He has volunteered at the Up21 Bike Camp, teaching special needs children and adults how to ride bicycles. He has also given his time to community beautification projects and coaching youth basketball.
