Brother Martin Announces Chris Biehl to Step Down From Basketball Program

In a release from the school, Brother Martin High School announced that Mr. Chris Biehl has decided to step down as head coach of the Crusader basketball program.

“Coach Biehl met with me in the first semester to let me know that he intended to step away at the end of the season. Chris is an incredible role model for all of our students and has been over the last thirteen years at Brother Martin,” said Principal Mr. Ryan Gallagher ‘00.

“Chris is a class act, an incredible person with whom I enjoy working immensely, and he is one of the best basketball coaches in Louisiana,” Gallagher continued. “While the accomplishments and the record that he has compiled here are impressive, they pale in comparison to the positive influence Chris has had on so many of his students and student-athletes in their formation as young men of faith, integrity, and character.”

Mr. Mark Wisniewski ’81 CAA, Director of Athletics, commented, “We would like to thank Coach Biehl for all of his contributions to our basketball program over the last 13 years. He has been an integral part of the growth of our young men on the basketball court, in the classroom, and beyond.”

A veteran coach of over thirty years, Biehl started his career at Brother Martin as a varsity assistant coach in 2012 before taking over as head coach in the fall of 2013.

In twelve seasons under his leadership, Biehl’s teams advanced to the playoffs each season, winning two district championships, advancing to the state quarterfinals three times, the state semifinals three times, and earning State Runner-Up in 2017.

“Chris has been an excellent leader and role model for our young men. While he will be missed, we are excited for the next chapter of Crusader basketball,” Wisniewski added. “With six state championships in our school’s history, three titles in the last twenty years, and four Top 28 appearances in the last ten years, our next head coach is inheriting one of the most storied basketball programs in the state of Louisiana.”

“I am grateful for the opportunity to coach so many wonderful boys during my time as head coach. I have made lifetime memories with the students, faculty, and staff at Brother Martin,” said Coach Biehl.
