For Sam Burns, Thursday’s 12:45 p.m. CT tee time at the Masters is more than just another round of golf—it’s the latest milestone in a journey that began on the fairways of Shreveport.

The Calvary Baptist Academy alum will open his 2025 Masters alongside Sahith Theegala and Sepp Straka, stepping onto Augusta National’s storied grounds with quiet confidence and a game that’s been dialed in all season long.

That confidence comes from years of grinding, including a high school career that still resonates back home. At Calvary, Burns wasn’t just good—he was dominant. He helped the Cavaliers win five straight LHSAA state championships from 2010 to 2014, capturing three individual state titles of his own. In 2012, he went 6-under to win the Division IV title at Atchafalaya. Then, in 2013 and 2014, he claimed back-to-back Division III titles at East Ridge in Shreveport, finishing 2-under and 8-under, respectively.

For those who watched him grow up on Louisiana’s golf scene, seeing his name on another Masters tee sheet feels like a full-circle moment.

Now making his fourth trip to Augusta, Sam Burns isn’t just another name on the leaderboard—he’s a player who’s earned his spot among the game’s best. And when he strolls down that first fairway Thursday afternoon, he won’t be alone. Behind every step is the pride of a hometown that’s been with him from the start—through Louisiana high school state championships and now, one of golf’s biggest stages.
