Gatorade announced Catholic High School senior Andrew Clapinski as the 2024-25 Gatorade Louisiana Baseball Player of the Year, recognizing the Baton Rouge standout for his performance on the field, excellence in the classroom, and leadership in the community.
Now in its 40th year, the Gatorade Player of the Year program honors the nation’s elite high school student-athletes, celebrating those who not only excel in their sport but also shine academically and make a positive impact off the field. Clapinski now joins a legendary list of past winners, including MLB greats like Gary Sheffield and Clayton Kershaw.
A 6-foot, 180-pound senior catcher, Clapinski helped guide the Catholic High Bears to a 37-5 record and back-to-back Division I state championships. At the plate, he hit .462 with six home runs and 40 RBI, leading his team in nearly every major offensive category.
His standout season earned him First Team All-State honors and made him a two-time First Team All-District selection. Perfect Game ranks him as Louisiana’s No. 9 overall prospect in the Class of 2025.

Opposing coaches took notice of his poise and performance as well.
“I have the utmost respect for Andrew Clapinski as a player, but more importantly, as a person,” said Jeff Curtis, head coach at John Curtis. “He’s been one of the top competitors we’ve faced over the last two seasons. He was the glue for their team and the one guy we didn’t want to let beat us.”
In his community, Clapinski is known for his strong character and faith. A devoted parishioner at his local church, he has consistently demonstrated the kind of leadership and humility that inspire those around him.
Clapinski’s impact extended far beyond the diamond. He holds a 4.13 weighted GPA, showcasing a commitment to academic excellence that earned him the title of 2025 Student-Athlete of the Year at Catholic High’s annual Honors Convocation. He has signed a national letter of intent to continue his baseball career on scholarship at LSU-Eunice this fall.
