Destrehan’s Phillip Wright III Commits to LSU, Continuing Local Pipeline

Destrehan’s wide receiver Phillip Wright III has officially committed to LSU, and will join his teammate Jhase Thomas in Baton Rouge. The commitment comes on the heels of Wright’s recent decision to decommit from the University of Michigan.
Before heading off to LSU, Wright and Thomas have unfinished business at Destrehan. Following an 11-1 season in 2023, capped by a 6-0 district record, the duo is determined to lead their team back to a state championship. Last season’s quarterfinal loss to Zachary has only fueled their desire for a deeper playoff run in 2024.
As noted in our GeauxPreps Prospect Preview with Rivals’ Sam Spiegelman, Wright possesses the rare ability to take the top off opposing defenses, giving the Destrehan offense a vertical threat that is hard to match. His speed, noted by many, including Destrehan head coach Marcus Scott, who has described it as Olympic-level, is his most lethal weapon. However, Wright’s biggest challenge will be to consistently harness that speed to create mismatches and ignite the Destrehan offense throughout the season.
Wright took official visits to Baylor, Georgia Tech and Michigan before ultimately choosing LSU. At 6-foot-1 and 180 pounds, Wright has drawn attention from programs across the country, making him one of the most sought-after talents in the 2024 class.
As Wright and Thomas prepare for their final high school season, all eyes will be on Destrehan as they aim to bring home a state championship before continuing their football careers at LSU.
