In Round 1 of the Louisiana high school football playoffs, standout players across the state delivered unforgettable performances. From record-setting running backs to game-changing defensive playmakers, these student-athletes showcased their talent under the Friday Night Lights. Here’s a look at the top impact players from Round 1.
Peyton Houston – Evangel

Peyton Houston was unstoppable in Evangel’s 58-48 playoff win over Captain Shreve. The star quarterback totaled 474 yards with 4 passing touchdowns and 1 rushing score, making clutch plays all night. Houston’s performance powered the Eagles to a big postseason victory! Evangel will move on and play the #2 seed Alexandria Trojans on Friday night.
Luke Jones – West Ouachita

Luke Jones was a defensive force in West Ouachita’s 42-41 win over Denham Springs. The standout linebacker racked up 19 tackles, 1 tackle for loss, 1 sack, and a pass breakup, coming up big when it mattered most. Jones’ effort was key in helping the Chiefs edge out the win in a playoff nail-biter! West Ouachita will play the #4 seed Central on Friday night.
Taron Riley – Lakeside

Lakeside safety Taron Riley had a game for the ages in the Warriors’ dominant 37-12 playoff win over Bogalusa. Riley was an absolute menace on defense, with three tackles and five (5) interceptions, one of which he returned 97 yards to the house.
As if that wasn’t enough, he contributed on offense with 15 carries for 88 yards, proving to be a true two-way star. Taron’s performance made him an easy choice for GeauxPreps Defensive Player of the Week. The Warriors move to the regional round where they’ll face #6 Sterlington on the road.
Kyran Johnson – Northwood

Kyran Johnson carried the load in Northwood’s 54-27 playoff win over Salmen. The Falcons star tallied 34 carries for 204 yards and 3 touchdowns, averaging 6 yards per rush. He also added 2 receptions for 45 yards, proving he’s a dual threat. Johnson’s all-around performance set the tone for the Falcons’ big victory! Northwood will host #10 Destrehan this weekend looking to make a run.
Evan Arceneaux – De La Salle

Evan Arceneaux put on a clinic in De La Salle’s dominant 48-0 first-round win over Fisher. The standout QB completed 8 of 11 passes for 172 yards, throwing an impressive 6 touchdowns with no interceptions. Arceneaux’s precision and efficiency were key in securing the blowout victory. Next up, De La Salle will travel to Shreveport to face the #3 seed, Calvary.
Hayden Horton – Loyola

Hayden Horton was a tackling machine in Loyola’s 63-44 first-round win over Sophie B. Wright. The linebacker totaled 13 tackles (4 solo, 9 assist), 1 tackle for loss, and 0.5 sack. Horton’s effort helped keep the Flyers in control during the high-scoring victory! Loyola will travel to #7 Leesville in what should be a high-scoring affair.
Davekio Ruffin – Zachary

Davekio Ruffin put on an explosive performance in Zachary’s 54-35 first-round win over Sam Houston. The dynamic running back rushed for 317 yards on 17 carries, scoring 6 touchdowns. Ruffin’s big plays were crucial in the Broncos pulling away late in the game. Next, Zachary will travel to face defending state champion Ruston on Friday.
Anton Davis – General Trass

Anton Davis was a force in General Trass’ 64-20 victory over Centerville. The dynamic running back rushed for 4 touchdowns and added 2 receiving scores, totaling 204 yards. Davis’ all-around performance was crucial in leading his team to a dominant first-round win. The Panthers head to North Iberville for the second round.
Ryan Allen – Westlake

Ryan Allen was electric in Westlake’s playoff win, racking up 175 total yards and 4 touchdowns in the Rams victory. The wide receiver had 2 rushing touchdowns and 2 receiving touchdowns, showcasing his versatility. Allen’s big-play ability was key in leading Westlake to a dominant first-round win over Crowley. Westlake now heads to #4 Kinder for the second round of the playoffs.
Harlem Berry – St. Martin’s

Harlem Berry was a standout in St. Martin’s Episcopal’s 56-36 win over Delhi Charter. The running back rushed for 312 yards on 24 carries, scoring 6 touchdowns, and also caught 2 passes for 52 yards and another touchdown. Berry played about 25 snaps on defense. The Saints will travel to St. Edmund on Friday for the regional round.
