GeauxPreps names impact players from week 2

Week 2 of Louisiana High School football didn’t disappoint. The stars were out over the weekend and boy, did they deliver. Here’s our look at our impact players from week 2.


Cooper Babin (St. Amant, QB)
St. Amant quarterback Cooper Babin exploded for 550 total yards and eight touchdowns in a 60-56 win over Cecilia. Babin passed for 401 yards with four scores and added 149 rushing yards with four more touchdowns, including a game-winning drive in the final minute. His record-setting night lifted the Gators to a 2-0 start.

Alex Mitchell (Loyola, SS)
Loyola’s Alex Mitchell anchored the Flyers’ defense with three interceptions, all in the second half, during a 47-12 win over Logansport. His timely takeaways kept the momentum firmly in Loyola’s hands, helping the Flyers remain unbeaten at 2-0.

Elijah Haven (Dunham, QB)
Dunham quarterback Elijah Haven accounted for 532 total yards and eight touchdowns in a 63-42 win over Live Oak.

Makelin Lemoine (Elton, RB)
Elton running back Makelin Lemoine the Indians to a 45-22 win over Northwood-Lena with 336 rushing yards and six touchdowns.

Armonii Benjamin (Marksville), WR/DB)
In just his second varsity game, Armonii Benjamin delivered with 259 receiving yards and three touchdowns on only five catches in a 36-28 win over Church Point.

Cadyn Stogner (Pine, LB)
Pine’s Cadyn Stogner was a force on defense in the Raiders’ 44-19 win over Independence. He tallied 14 tackles and two sacks.

Gemar Hodges (Kenner Discovery, RB)
Kenner Discovery’s Gemara Hodges put up video-game numbers in a 49-38 win over Jefferson Rise. He rushed 20 times for 342 yards and six touchdowns, averaging 16.2 yards per carry. He also added 123 yards on kick returns.

Ayden Carter (Lake Charles College Prep, RB/WR)
Lake Charles College Prep’s Ayden Carter lit up the scoreboard in a 70-65 shootout against Barbe. Carter rushed for 340 yards and three touchdowns on just 14 carries, while adding a 25-yard touchdown reception to finish with four total scores.

Hayden Bell (North DeSoto, OLB)
North DeSoto linebacker Hayden Bell filled the stat sheet in a 49-20 win over Center (TX). Bell posted 10 tackles, four tackles for loss, a sack, and a forced fumble while also blocking a punt and returning it 25 yards for a touchdown-his second score of the season.

Bryce Restovich (Loyola, QB)
Loyola quarterback Bryce Restovich was sharp in the Flyers’ 47-12 win over Logansport, completing 23 of 33 passes for 275 yards and three touchdowns.

Peyton Houston (Evangel, QB)
Evangel quarterback Peyton Houston piled up 505 total yards and five touchdowns in a 63-42 win over Natchitoches Central. Houston threw for 389 yards and four scores while rushing for 116 yards and another touchdown.

Josh Barthelemy (South Plaquemines, LB)
South Plaquemines linebacker Josh Barthelemy anchored the Hurricanes’ defense in a 38-14 win over Bogalusa, recording 18 tackles and an interception.

John Johnson (Edna Karr, QB)
Reigning DI Select Most Outstanding Player John Johnson shined brightest on the big stage inside the Superdome. Facing nationally ranked American Heritage, Johnson engineered a two-minute drive to set up a game-tying field goal as time expired in regulation. He then sealed Edna Karr’s 24-17 overtime win with a touchdown run before the defense came up with a fourth-down stop.
