In a season full of parity at the top, the final VSN/GeauxPreps Volleyball Power 25 Poll of the season ends with a new No.1 for a fourth consecutive week.

After a 5-0 week which included four wins over Power 25s, combined with a loss by St Thomas More, Hannan closes the regular season No.1 receiving 312 out of a possible 325 points and five first-place votes to edge STM who received 310 points and also five first-place votes.

“I’m proud of the way we have worked throughout the season to get better every time we play,” said Hannan coach Bekki Bonnaffee. “We have focused on playing with confidence and consistency and it is paying off. We know we will have to work very hard to make it all the way, but we know we have been tested all season and can, hopefully, handle whatever comes our way.”

Country Day received two first-place votes and wound up with 303 total points just seven behind STM to finish No.3.

Mt. Carmel who defeated rival Dominican last Tuesday finished No.4 with 280 points, one better than Dominican who won the ESA “Spooktacular Tournament” and closes out the Top 5.

The biggest mover heading into the playoffs is Vandebilt who jumped six spots and comes in at No.8 after beating previous No.1 STM and losing a three-set war with Dominican (21-25, 28-26, 19-17) in the Spooktacular finals.
The longest winning streak heading into the playoffs belongs to Northlake Christian. The defending Division IV State Champs have won 10 straight to close out the regular season. They moved up four spots in the final regular season poll coming in at No.18 after overcoming injuries and a 4-6 start to the season.

Coach’s comments: “We had a great last week of regular season play going 6-1 and winning the spooktacular tournament. I think this was a great week for a lot of reasons. We played great competition and played them back to back, so this is great preparation moving into playoffs and it was a great way to cap off our regular season by winning a big tournament.”I would like to highlight Lauren Pipitone who clinched her 2,000th career dig this weekend in the championship game against Vandebilt Catholic. Lauren had an amazing week with 154 digs in 7 matches averaging 8 digs per set for the week!” Jessica Chatellier

“Coach’s comments: “I really feel winning the District Championship the way we did at E.D. White prompted us all the way through our success at the Spooktacular Tournament. It gave us a burst of energy and confidence. I think that’s the way you want to be playing heading into the playoffs. I’m really proud of my team for that.” Latashia Wise-Jackson

“As far as players that have stood out…Ina Smith leads team with a .249 Hitting Pct., Makayla Morter has 396 kills, and Marissa Taix just picked up her 1,600 career dig this past weekend.”

Coach’s comments: “We showed a lot of improvement from the beginning of the regular season to the end. You can specifically see it in our setter, Aadyn Polk, who has done a phenomenal job of being intentional in her decision making. We were actually picking up speed and confidence with Jana Thymes and Laurel Cassidy both being almost unstoppable at the net; Marin Price making big contributions offensively as a freshman; Riley Hauck contributing defensively with her improved blocking; and our defensive players, Ava LeBlanc, Sela Alwood, and Kennedy Otwell, competitively taking care of our first touches. But mostly importantly, our team has really been playing as one the last few weeks.  Although sickness and injuries have plagued us this last week which happens with a lot of teams, what we are pleased with is the grit and leadership our starters have shown through it. They’ve stepped up their game and been more accountable while helping our younger players, who are now playing varsity for the first time in their lives or in completely different rolls like Norah Frank who’s done a tremendous job of setting for us, feel comfortable and confident in their new roles. With a few days of rest for some, we believe we will be back 100% and feeling rejuvenated to make a solid run in playoffs.” Allison Didier Leake

11. Hahnville (30-7, 4-2 week)…Beat rival Destrehan and Thibodaux both 3-0 to claim district title…2-2 at Dunham Tournament..lost to No.2 Hannan (2-0) and No.11 Ben Franklin (2-1)…Beat No.20 St Michael and Denham Springs…

Coach’s comments: “We’re excited and have fought hard all season to reach the postseason. Going in as the No.3 seed in Division II reflects the dedication the girls have shown everyday. They’ll be out there fighting for each other, with Kat Kondkar leading the way, keeping everyone level-headed in the court and averaging an outstanding 8 assist per set.” Kim Buford

13. Westminster (Opelousas) (31-8, 5-2 week)…Beat Highland Baptist (3-0) and No.19. Sam Houston (3-0)….3-2 at Spooktacular…Beat No.8 Parkview Baptist, Ascension Episcopal, and Chapelle-all 2-0…Lost to No.6 Dominican and No.15 EDW both 2-0

“Also, as a fan it’s so good to see some different schools at the top of the pile in some of the divisions.” Bryan Barrett

16. Dutchtown (31-9, 5-1 week)…Started week with a 3-2 win vs No.16 Newman…3-0 win vs Live Oak…3-1 at Dunham Tournament….Beat 3 Non-Power 25s (Ponchatoula, SSA, Catholic PC)…Lost 3-0 to No.2 Hannan 2-0…

Coach’s comments: “I’m really pleased with how the team has come together this season. Cadie Kusy and Ania Anderson have led us statistically in hitting, but the other players in the line up have done a great job of filling their roles. Olivia Songy and Kinsey Phillips have distributed the ball well as the setters. Jamie Ragsdale and Caroline Johnson have anchored the defense on the back row. Hayden Herring has been a consistent offensive threat for us in the middle. And Denim Ashford, Abbie Morgan, and Jaylah Smith have had some timely kills. Coach’s comments: “My goal this year was to play an extremely tough schedule being I had an experienced group of players coming back from our semi final loss last year in Div III. Our regular season was filled with “ups and downs” that I was not happy with. We lacked the consistency to really have the kind of year that I expected. We were the epitome of the “tale of two teams”, one day, extremely good, the next, not very good at all.I have a few players that are just so hard on themselves that they mentally take themselves out the game, which causes way too many errors to beat the really good teams.
“We are very balanced offensively, as senior setter, Reese Molbert, does such a good job spreading the ball around to everyone. It seems like every match we have somebody else step up to be our offensive leader. Defensively, sophomore Amelie Trappey does a really good job being aggressive, along with senior Libero, Addison Delcambre.

“We are looking forward to using the experience of playing all the powerhouse teams that we played this year to make a deep run this year. Honestly, I think anybody 1-through-9 could beat each other in Div IV, so it will not be easy.” Gary Westcott

23. Sam Houston (36-6, 1-1 week)…Lost 3-0 to No.13 WCA…Beat Iowa 3-0

Coach’s comments: “Holding second in power rankings during the better part of the year has been a confidence booster for the players!  My philosophy this year was that I would “make or break them” with a very busy schedule, playing six tournaments.  Having graduated eight seniors last year, we focused on team chemistry and player adaptability in various positions to ensure this year’s success.  As we wait for the playoff brackets to be released , we are healthy, happy and confident, which is amazing!  This month Bailey Foolkes and Ava Henry have committed to McNeese State University to play volleyball!  Aubrey Portie is a junior and has some offers on the table as well.”

24. Teurlings Catholic (19-15 overall, 18-14 vs LA, 4-2 week)…Started with 3-0 win vs Comeaux…3-2 win vs Notre Dame (16-25, 25-19, 25-22, 23-25, 15-10)…2-2 at Spooktacular…Beat No.12 LCA 2-1 and Sulphur 2-0..Lost to No.14 Vandebilt and No.15 EDW

25. Northshore (19-17, 3-4 week)….Started with a pair of 3-0 losses to No.2 Hannan and No.2 Country Day…3-0 win vs Ponchatoula…2-2 at Dunham Tournament…Beat St Amant and SSA…Lost to No.22 NLC and DunhamCoach’s comments: “I am very proud of the team for what they have accomplished this year (in the regular season). We had a lot of young players stepping up, playing big roles to get the 12th seed.

“As for player(s) to highlight: for us to achieve what we achieved this year, we needed everyone to step up to do their part…total team effort.” Danny Davis
