Kaplan Pirates Named GeauxPreps Football Team of the Week

The Kaplan Pirates are the GeauxPreps Team of the Week after an impressive 40-20 victory over the reigning Division IV Select State Champions, Southern Lab. The Pirates not only dominated the scoreboard but also showcased a clinic in ball control, holding possession for the majority of the game and dictating the tempo from start to finish.

The Pirates scored on all four of their first-half drives to take a commanding lead. The Pirates’ relentless ground attack wore down the Kittens’ defense, racking up 289 rushing yards on 58 carries.

Quarterbacking was more a formality than a focal point for Kaplan, as they only attempted two passes all game.

The second half began with a statement drive for Kaplan, as they took more than nine minutes off the clock, methodically marching down the field before capping it off with a touchdown. This drive extended the Pirates’ lead to 40-8, leaving little doubt about the outcome.

In a game that emphasized Kaplan’s physicality and control, the Pirates’ defense also held strong, limiting Southern Lab’s big-play potential and forcing them to play from behind, a scenario unfamiliar to the defending champions.
