LHSAA State Golf Championship Final Results; Weather Forces Early Conclusion

by: Vincent Cacioppo // GeauxPreps.com Managing Editor

Louisiana’s top high school golfers delivered strong performances over the last 2 days as the 2025 LHSAA State Golf Championships wrapped up across Acadiana. The tournament, originally set for 36 holes, was shortened to 27 due to inclement weather.

At Les Vieux Chenes Golf Club, the Benton High School’s girls team extended its run of excellence by taking the Division I title with a two-day total of 215, thanks to standout play from Grace Goodwin and Abigail McWilliams. Brusly’s Maci Williams claimed individual honors with a 70-34—104 finish, while Academy of the Sacred Heart took home the Division II team crown with a score of 234, led by Jade Neves’ steady 74-35–109.

On the boys’ side, Catholic of Baton Rouge held off C.E. Byrd to win the Division I championship at The Wetlands in Lafayette, while Lafayette High’s Drew Sliman posted the lowest individual total of the tournament with a 67-34–101.

St. Louis Catholic took home the Division II title at The Farm d’Allie with a two-day total of 457, showcasing a strong team effort. In Division III, Ascension Episcopal put up a strong two days with 445, holding off Parkview Baptist (447) at Cane Row Golf Club in New Iberia. Vermilion Catholic held off Westminster Christian with a 517 to 520 total to capture the Division IV State Title at Cane Row. Below are the full team and individual results for the state championships.

Division I Girls Final Results

At Les Vieux Chenes Golf Club (5,679 yards, par 74), Youngsville, La.

Courtesy Dan McDonald – Defending champion Benton had two of the top three individual finishers for the second straight day and used that finish to claim the title in Girls Division I at the LHSAA State High School Golf Championships.

Grace Goodwin and Abigail McWilliams finished second and third individually, with McWilliams carding a one-under 35 and Goodwin a two-over 38 in Tuesday’s rain-shortened round over the 5,679-yard par-74 Les Vieux Chenes Golf Club layout.

That 73 total added to their first-day six-under 142 and left Benton at 215 for the tournament, good enough for a 17-stroke victory over runner-up Barbe after Benton had entered the final round with a 12-shot lead. Because of rain and lightning in the Acadiana area, the tournament was shortened to nine holes on Tuesday and to a total of 27 holes.

Maci Williams of Brusly, who entered the final day one shot behind Goodwin in the individual chase, had the low round of the day Tuesday with a two-under 34. Williams birdied the par-four sixth and the par-five eighth in a no-bogey round on Tuesday and finished at 104, three strokes ahead of Goodwin and four strokes ahead of McWilliams.

Evelynn Artieta of Walker finished fourth at 110 with a final-nine 36, after she lost in a playoff with defending champion Mattie Purgahn of Barbe last year. Purgahn finished fifth at 115 and Barbe teammate Maggie Dressler was tied for sixth with Kate Boersma of Ruston to help Barbe claim runner-up honors.

Southside of Lafayette finished third at 244 while St. Joseph’s Academy was fourth at 249 and Northshore fifth at 258.

Division II Girls Final Results

At Les Vieux Chenes Golf Club (5,679 yards, par 74), Youngsville, La.

Courtesy Dan McDonald – Academy of the Sacred Heart had two of the day’s three lowest scores Tuesday and used that to rally from a one-stroke deficit after the first round and claim the championship in Girls Division II of the LHSAA State High School Golf Championships.

Individual champion Jade Neves posted the day’s low round with a three-under 35 on the par-38 back nine at the 5,679-yard par-72 Les Vieux Chenes Golf Club, while teammate Madeline Rudolph finished with a three-over 41. That gave ASH at 76 score on Tuesday in the rain-shortened event, nine strokes better than runner-up Episcopal, and a winning two-round total of 234.

Episcopal, the first-round leader by one shot, finished with an 85 after the tournament was shortened by rain and lightning to nine holes on Tuesday and to a total of 27 holes. Episcopal finished eight shots back at 242.

Neves, the first-round leader with an even-par 74, had won the Division I individual title in 2023 and was sixth in Division I last year. She lost her first-round lead when she bogeyed her first hole, the par-five 10th, and defending individual champion Sophia Macias birdied. But Neves birdied four of her next eight holes including a clinching birdie at the par-five 18th to finish at three-under 109.

Macias’ one-under 111 was the only other sub-par score, with Ashley Biehl of Ursuline Academy in third place at 120 and Rudolph in fourth with her 125 score. Ali Evans of Westlake finished fifth at 129 and Reese Crooks of St. Louis Catholic sixth at 130.

Westlake finished third in the team race at 277 while Ursuline Academy was fourth at 284 and St. Louis fifth at 285.

Division I Boys Final Results

At The Wetlands (6,348 yards, par 72), Lafayette, La.

Courtesy Dan McDonald– Catholic High of Baton Rouge posted three even or sub-par scores in Tuesday’s rain-shortened second round and used that to claim the Boys Division I state title at the LHSAA State High School Golf Championships.

Catholic High posted one-under 143 score in Tuesday’s final round, which was cut short because of weather in the Acadiana area that limited the tournament to 27 holes. That gave CHS a two-day 428 total, good enough for a five-stroke win over defending champion C. E. Byrd, which had won seven of the last nine Boys Division I titles.

Drew Sliman of Lafayette High finished with a seven-under 101 score over the 27 holes and claimed the individual championship by one stroke over Justin Lotz of Northshore. Duke Nitcher of Jesuit, last year’s runner-up who had the low round of the tournament with an opening eight-under 64, finished third at five-under 103.

Catholic High and Byrd were tied after Monday’s first round at three-under 285, but Kevin Zheng and Nyles Williams both shot one-under 35 and David Marsh had an even-par 36 on Tuesday to boost Catholic High to the top spot. St. Thomas More jumped up two spots and finished in third place at 441 while Jesuit was fourth at 445.

Sliman, who had the low round in qualifying last week with a five-under 67, had two birdies in his first three holes over the 6,348-yard par-72 The Wetlands layout and finished with a no-bogey round. He was in fourth place individually entering the final round and was tied with Lotz going to the ninth hole, but Lotz took a bogey on the par-five ninth to fall one shot back before the final nine holes was washed out.

Division II Boys Final Results

At The Farm d’Allie (6,536 yards, par 72), Carencro, La.

Courtesy Dan McDonald – St. Louis Catholic of Lake Charles made its first-day lead stand up Tuesday, finishing with three of the top four individuals on the way to the team championship in Boys Division II at the LHSAA State High School Golf Championships.

Kye Hanks of St. Louis claimed the individual title with a two-under 106 score in the weather-shortened event, with weather in the Acadiana area limiting the tournament to nine holes on Tuesday and a total of 27 holes. Teammates Samuel Broussard (115) and Kane Hanks (116) finished third and fourth respectively in helping St. Louis finish with a 156 total in Tuesday’s nine holes and a 457 overall score.

That was good enough for a 28-stroke margin over runner-up and tournament host Teurlings Catholic, with the top two teams both carding identical 12-over 156 scores on Tuesday over the 6,536-yard par-72 The Farm d’Allie layout. St. Charles Catholic was 27 more strokes behind in third place at 512 while Vandebilt Catholic was fourth at 522 and Brusly fifth at 523.

Hanks, Monday’s individual leader after a three-under 69, had three birdies and three bogeys in the rain-shortened final round to finish seven shots ahead of runner-up Fulton Pigeon of Holy Cross, who shot 75-38—113 as an individual entry. Brewer Cain led Teurlings Catholic and had the low round of the day Tuesday with a one-under 35, finishing tied for fifth with Dane Galiano of St. Charles Catholic at 11-over 119.

Jackson Dauzat of Teurlings Catholic and individual entry Kaine Stevens of North Vermilion were one more shot back and tied for seventh at 120.

Division III Boys Final Results

At The Wetlands (6,348 yards, par 72), Lafayette, La.

Courtesy Dan McDonald – Ascension Episcopal of Youngsville held off a big rally by Parkview Baptist and claimed its seventh straight boys’ title Tuesday in Boys Division III of the LHSAA State High School Golf Championships.

The Blue Gators, who had an eight-shot lead after Monday’s first trip around the 6,348-yard par-72 The Wetlands layout, posted a nine-over 153 score in Tuesday’s rain-shortened final round. Rain and lightning in the Acadiana area forced the tournament to be limited to nine holes on Tuesday and a total of 27 holes.

Parkview Baptist had a three-over 147 in the shortened final round and got two of Tuesday’s three sub-par scores with one-under 35’s from Jack Carter and Elliot Aucoin, but both individual champion Noah Chauvin of AES and playing partner Hunter Cope of PBHS double-bogeyed the par-four 18th hole, their final hole of the day, to leave Ascension Episcopal with the two-shot advantage.

Ascension Episcopal finished at 445 and Parkview Baptist at 447, while Loyola Prep finished third in the team race at 463, University Lab was fourth at 475 and Episcopal fifth at 477.

Chauvin, the defending champion who set a tournament record with a 36-hole 66-63—129 last year in winning by 12 shots, was the leader after Monday’s first round at two-under 70 and was even-par through Tuesday’s completed nine holes thanks to birdieing two of his first four holes.

Silas Lovett of Ouachita Christian also had a final-round 36 and finished one shot back at 107, while Carter and Jack Gilmer of Loyola Prep tied for third at even-par 108. Ben Blanco of Ascension Episcopal, Jack Lauve of Loyola Prep and individual entry Cooper Adams of Houma Christian tied for fifth at two-over 110.

Division IV Boys Final Results

At Cane Row Golf & Turf Club (6,291 yards, par 72), New Iberia, La.

Courtesy Dan McDonald – Vermilion Catholic of Abbeville used the same formula from Monday’s opening round, using balanced scoring to hold onto its team lead and claim the team championship in Boys Division IV of the LHSAA State High School Golf Championships.

Without putting a player in the top five individuals, the Eagles held a three-shot lead over Cedar Creek and a four-shot lead over Westminster Christian after Monday’s first round over the 6,291-yard par-72 Cane Row Golf & Turf Club layout. On Tuesday, VC did not have a player in the individual top nine but still carded a 173 team score to win by three shots over Westminster.

Hayden Patin (41), Carlyn Ledet (41), Sawyer Stover (43) and Kohen Hebert (48) combined for the Eagles’ win, with Patin the only individual top-10 finisher in a tie for sixth at 14-over 122. Due to rain and lightning in the Acadiana area, the tournament was shortened to a final nine holes on Tuesday and to 27 total holes.

Alex Roebuck of Cedar Creek held onto his first-day lead and claimed individual medalist honors, adding a three-over 39 to his two-under 70 on Monday and helped Cedar Creek finish third at 525. Defending champion Quitman was fourth at 532 and Castor fifth at 551.

Roebuck’s one-over 109 total was two shots better than individual entry Luke Wainwright of Grand Lake (71-40—111) while defending individual champion Logan Heltz of Christ Episcopal finished third at 114 (74-40). Christ Episcopal had two of the top four finishes, with fellow individual entry Wyatt Shiflett fourth at 117, while Westminster’s Jackson Davis was fifth at 121 and Ivan Popp of Berchmans Academy and Carson Carrico of Choudrant tied with Patin for sixth at 122.
