Making an Impact: GeauxPreps Week 1 Standouts
by Marshall Loeffler // GeauxPreps.com
There were some great individual efforts in some big games to start the season, and while this may not be the ten very best performances from Week 1, here is a list of guys that I thought were huge for their team:
Grant Braxton – Leesville
The Wampus Cats RB had 35 carries for 221 yards and 4 touchdowns in their Battle for the Hooper Trophy against DeRidder.
Payton Harris – Cedar Creek
The Cougars’ RB rushed for 214 yards on 18 carries, had 5 rushing touchdowns, and also recovered a fumble in a 55-14 win over Delhi Charter.
Noah Antoine – Westgate
The Tigers QB threw five touchdown passes and had almost 200 passing yards while leading an impressive attack against Liberty Magnet in a 54-8 win.
Justus Carlton – Northshore
The Panthers RB had 28 carries for 215 yards and three scores during a really good road win at Lutcher, a shootout game that NHS won 47-35.
Dalen Powell – Ruston
The Bearcats RB ran for 271 yards and scored five times in the annual game with Neville, which has been played for over 100 years.
Aaron Cage – Berwick
The Panthers RB not only rushed for 99 yards in his first high school game, but also forced two fumbles and had a QB sack in their 42-7 victory over Morgan City.
Karsen Sellers – ASH
The Trojans QB not only threw for multiple scores, but ran for two touchdowns as well, helping Alexandria dominate the best high school team from Arkansas.
BJ Strickland – Independence
The Tigers RB was huge to start the season against Bogalusa, with 23 carries, 129 yards, and five touchdowns to help get a 57-6 win over the Lumberjacks.
Nathaniel Singleton – Rummel
The Raiders WR was the QB last year, but caught the game-winning touchdown pass from Colton Nussmeier in a clutch 34-28 victory over University Lab.
Jaden Celestine – Lafayette
The Mighty Lions RB had no trouble in his new uniform colors, getting over 200 yards and 4 touchdowns in his debut, beating Live Oak 39-23.
