Mount Carmel Academy Alum Kristen Nuss Shines as USA Volleyball Impresses in Paris Before Falling in Rematch with Canada

In a city known for its iconic landmarks and rich history, Mount Carmel Academy alumni, Kristen Nuss and partner Taryn Kloth, etched their own names into the storied tapestry of Paris. Competing under the lights of the Eiffel Tower, Nuss and Kloth, ranked No. 2 in the world, captivated fans with a magical run in their Olympic debut, ultimately finishing in 9th place after falling to Canada in the knockout rounds.


Match 1

The journey for Nuss and Kloth began with a victory over Canada in their first game of pool play, where they showcased their chemistry and determination on the global stage. With the Eiffel Tower standing tall above them, the duo’s Olympic journey was off to a promising start.


Match 2

Their momentum continued in the second game of pool play, where they faced Australia. In another impressive performance, Nuss and Kloth secured a 2-0 victory, moving closer to their Olympic dreams.


Match 3

The third and final pool play match saw Nuss and Kloth face off against China. Despite a weather delay and an 0-1 deficit, the pair remained focused and determined. Under the lights of the Eiffel Tower once again with, arguably the greatest basketball player of all time, LeBron James, cheering them on, they delivered a commanding performance, defeating China to finish pool play with a perfect 3-0 record.

However, their fairy-tale run came to an end in the knockout rounds, where they faced a familiar foe in Canada. Despite their best efforts, Nuss and Kloth were unable to replicate their earlier success, falling 2-0 to the Canadians.

While their Olympic journey concluded earlier than they had hoped, Nuss and Kloth’s performance in Paris was nothing short of extraordinary. Their 9th place finish is a testament to their talent and resilience. Mount Carmel Academy and all of Louisiana can be proud of their efforts on the world’s grandest stage.
