In a release from the school, Pope John Paul II announced that Coach Jay Carlin will be stepping down from his position as Head Boys’ Basketball Coach.
Coach Carlin joined the PJP community two years ago, coming out of a brief retirement to return to the game he loves. In his time leading the Jaguars, he compiled a 41-23 record and brought a renewed energy to the boys’ basketball program.

Athletic Director Richard Dieudonné shared high praise for Carlin’s impact on the school:
“Coach Carlin has been an excellent role model for the students of PJP and an exceptional co-worker for our faculty. His passion for basketball and his positive outlook for his students and players is something that will be tough to match. It has truly been a blessing for the PJP community to have Coach Carlin be a part of this school; his calm presence and leadership have brought such positive growth to the athletic department. It’s not every day your school gets the chance to have a true legend in the building.”

Coach Carlin’s name is widely respected across Louisiana, and rightfully so—his legacy in high school basketball is unmatched.
