Covenant Christian Academy has been named the “Sharpest” Team of the Month presented by Sharp Athletics after completing a perfect 34-0 regular season, including a 4-0 mark in District 7-1A play. The Lions, currently the top-ranked team in the Division IV select power ratings, have turned heads across the state with their dominant play, consistent execution, and unwavering focus — all qualities that embody the spirit of this monthly honor.

The No. 1-seeded Lions will face the winner of today’s matchup between No. 16 St. Martin’s Episcopal and No. 17 Central Catholic in the opening round of their postseason run.

As highlighted in our feature story on the Lions — “Chasing Expectations: Undefeated Covenant Christian Wants To Make Amends For Last Year’s Semifinal Exit” — Head Coach Joe Teuton knows how rare a season like this is. Staying unbeaten in baseball is no small feat, and his squad has not just survived pressure — they’ve thrived under it.

“I’m not saying that we can’t get beat,” Teuton said. “Baseball’s a game where you can get beat. I feel like you’re going to have to beat us because I don’t feel like we’re giving the game away right now and not beating ourselves. I think we’re giving ourselves a chance to win every game. That’s all you can do.”

That mindset has carried Covenant Christian through its toughest challenges — including a 1-0 showdown against rival Central Catholic, where junior Owen Trosclair threw a complete-game no-hitter and his twin brother Peyton delivered the game’s only RBI. It’s the kind of grit and poise that earned the team statewide attention and ultimately this month’s top honor from Sharp Athletics.

“Our goal is to get back to Sulphur and win the state championship,” said Teuton. “We want to cross the district championship bridge first, and when we get back to Sulphur, we’ve got some unfinished business.”

The team’s roster is built not only with talent, but with athletes used to winning — from the football team’s 10-0 run to deep playoff pushes in soccer and basketball. Nearly every baseball player on the roster is a multi-sport athlete, bringing a level of toughness and game-day experience that few programs can match.

That winning DNA shows up across the roster. Shortstop Mason Canter signed with Nicholls State, becoming Teuton’s first Division I baseball signee. Pitcher Brennan Champagne will play at Baton Rouge Community College, and standout senior Carsen Hebert is headed to Nicholls for football. Meanwhile, the Trosclair twins headline a talented junior class that’s already making its mark.

Alongside assistant coaches Tristan Rogers, Butch Theriot, and Travis Hebert, Teuton emphasizes high standards, attention to detail, and accountability — all key factors in being named the “Sharpest” Team of the Month.

“We’ve been fortunate that we’ve been a little lucky and we’ve played pretty good,” Teuton said. “If you put luck together, and you’ve played pretty good, the results show for themselves.”

As the “Sharpest” team in the state entering the postseason, they’re not just chasing perfection — they’re chasing redemption, with their eyes squarely set on Sulphur.
