Southwood named Sharpest Team of the Month

The wait is finally over for the Southwood Cowboys. After enduring a 43-game losing streak that stretched back to 2019, the Cowboys broke through last Thursday night with a 16-15 victory over Arcadia.
The win marks the program’s first since a 18-16 victory over Parkway five years ago. Now, with new head coach De’Aumante Johnson at the helm, the Cowboys are aiming to rewrite their story and restore pride in the program.
The Cowboys’ win was powered by steady quarterback play from Jayden Carter, keeping drives alive and putting the Cowboys in scoring position. On special teams, Nicholas Epps recovered a fumbled punt, swinging momentum in the second half.
For their resilience, perseverance, and ability to end one of the longest droughts in Louisiana high school football, Southwood has been named the Sharpest Team of the Month by our partners at Sharp Athletics.
The Cowboys’ next challenge comes Friday when they face North Caddo (0-2). A win would make the Cowboys 2-0 for the first time since 2006.
For Coach Johnson and the Cowboys, it was proof that a new era of Southwood football has arrived.
