Big changes are coming for the Benton Tigers as Huntington head coach Stephen Dennis officially announced he’s taking over as the new head coach. This move follows Reynolds Moore stepping down in November after a highly successful run leading the program.

Dennis leaves Huntington after a solid 2024 season, where the Raiders finished 5-5 and picked up a big playoff win over Hammond before running into eventual state champion Edna Karr. Under Dennis’ leadership, Huntington showed plenty of grit and progress, and he’ll be looking to bring that same energy to Benton.

“We are excited to welcome coach Dennis as the new head football coach at Benton High School,” Benton Principal Whitney Clark said in a release. “Coach Dennis brings a wealth of experience and a deep commitment to making a positive impact on the lives of his student-athletes, qualities that made him the clear choice for this role. His passion for the game and infectious enthusiasm will undoubtedly inspire our team and community.”

Benton fans have a lot to be excited about, especially with standout quarterback Malachi Zeigler running the offense. Zeigler, a 2027 prospect and 4-star recruit according to On3, is already turning heads and gives Dennis a major playmaker to work with as he builds his system.

Known for developing players and sparking new energy in programs, Dennis has all the tools to continue the tradition at Benton.

Meanwhile, Huntington now turns its attention to finding its next head coach. Whoever steps in will take over a program in good shape thanks to the work Dennis put in during his time there.

For Benton, though, the future looks bright. With Stephen Dennis at the helm, the Tigers are ready to turn the page in 2025.
