The Extra Point: Football Tidbits & More From Week 1

Superdome in September

Due to inclement weather and sloppy field conditions, the Shrine on Airline Double Header was moved to the Caesars Superdome.

John Curtis took on Rabun Gap out of Georgia in the first game of the doubleheader, falling 27-12, as turnovers proved costly for the Patriots.

The second game of the night came down the wire as Rummel held off Lafayette Christian 42-35. Rummel senior running back Norman Taylor ran for 173 yards on 21 carries.

Defending Champions off to an Interesting Start…

It was an interesting start for the defending state champions, to say the least. Last year’s Select Division III State Champion Calvary turned in the largest margin of victory in a shootout over the 2023 Non-Select Division IV State Champions, Oak Grove.

Opelousas, Union Parish, and Oak Grove look to bounce back in week 2.

  • Non-Select Division I: Ruston def. Acadiana, 35-27
  • Non-Select Division II: Opelousas lost to Teurlings Catholic, 21-14
  • Non-Select Division III: Union Parish lost to North DeSoto, 33-21
  • Non-Select Division IV: Oak Grove lost to Calvary, 62-41
  • Select Division I: Catholic – B.R. def. Destrehan, 23-20
  • Select Division II: St. Thomas More def. Carencro, 21-20
  • Select Division III: Calvary def. Oak Grove, 62-41
  • Select Division IV: Southern Lab def. Liberty Magnet, 34-16

Signal Callers Steal the Show

Quarterbacks throughout the state put on a show for the team on Friday night…

Abram Wardell set a Calvary school record with 7 touchdown passes against defending state champions, Oak Grove
