Southwood Ends 46 Game Losing Streak

After 2,141 days and 46 straight losses, the Southwood Cowboys finally broke through with a 16-15 victory over Arcadia on Thursday night.

Under first-year head coach Deaumante Johnson, the program celebrated its first win since November 1, 2019, when they defeated Parkway. Congratulations to the Cowboys!

Eight is Great: QBs Put On a Show

Elijah Haven – Dunham

Elijah Haven, the nation’s No. 1 QB in the Class of 2027 according to On3, put on a show against Live Oak on Thursday night, totaling 535 yards and 8 touchdowns in record-breaking fashion. Wideout Jarvis Washington hauled in 4 touchdown passes.

Cooper Babin – St. Amant

St. Amant’s Cooper Babin led St. Amant to a 60-56 shootout win over Cecilia, showcasing his dual-threat ability. On Thursday night, he racked up 401 yards through the air with 4 touchdown passes and added 149 yards on the ground with 4 rushing touchdowns.

Honoring Ed Daniels – Inspire the City Invitational

The Prep Classic doesn’t kick off until December but fans got a sneak preview Friday night as two marquee matchups took the field in the Inspire the City Invitational honoring the late Ed Daniels. In the opener, Rummel used its explosive backfield duo of Jaden Terrance and Coryan Hawkins to wear down University Lab. The Raiders piled up 230 rushing yards and pulled away in the second half for a 30-17 victory in the dome.

The nightcap brought a thriller between defending state champion Edna Karr and nationally ranked American Heritage. The Patriots were without No. 1 rated quarterback in the country, Dia Bell. Karr’s QB John Johnson took advantage. The 2024 DI select most outstanding player engineered a two-minute drive to set up a game-tying field goal to send it to overtime as time expired. He then sealed the Cougars’ 24-17 win with an overtime touchdown run before the defense came up with a big fourth-down stop to end it.

Another week, another comeback

In week 1, we had Mansfield rallying from a 35 point deficit, this week, Lake Charles College Prep pulled off their own miracle. On Thursday night, the Trailblazers stormed back to stun Barbe 70-65 after trailing by 25 at the half. LCCP surrendered a 51 point first half….and still came back to win.

Ayden Carter and Phillip Hunter turned the tide for the Trailblazers. The two teams combined for 1,314 yards and 135 points. Our friend Chaston Tavares was on the call, take a listen to his fantastic highlights from a wild night in SWLA.
