Upsets!
Calvary, our #1 ranked team in Class 2A taken down by Franklin Parish, 32-28.
A good note from our friends over at 14-0 Productions: One of the top 2 wins in Franklin Parish football history. Franklin Parish gave Haynesville their only loss from their back to back state championships in 2013 and 2014. The Patriots beat the #1 Tors 27-7 in ‘14. Franklin Parish shocks #1 Calvary in the Boro tonight for its second all-time upset of a LSWA #1 TEAM.
Evangel has been playing football for a long time, highly successful football at that. The Eagles have never lost a District 1-5A game at home… until last night. The C.E. Byrd Yellow Jackets went to Rodney Duron Field and came away with a 35-23 victory.
Predictions: Where We Were right … Where We Were Wrong …
Where We Were Right
#5 Teurlings Catholic vs #2 Notre Dame
The first half between Teurlings Catholic and Notre Dame was a defensive battle, with the Rebels holding a narrow 7-3 lead at halftime. The action picked up in the second half, as Teurlings extended their lead to 14-3. Although the No. 2-ranked Pios fought back to make it 14-10 in the third quarter, the Rebels proved too strong, sealing the game with a late touchdown to secure a 21-10 victory.
Homer vs #5 Haynesville
In the highly anticipated Battle for Claiborne Parish, Haynesville surged to a 14-0 halftime lead against Homer. Despite the deficit, Homer fought back in the second half, cutting the lead to eight points in the fourth quarter. However, the Golden Tornado managed to control the clock and sealed the game with a late touchdown, securing a 27-12 victory and their second consecutive win in the storied rivalry.
#5 Acadiana vs #1 St. Thomas More
Acadiana hit the road and handed St. Thomas More their second straight loss in a hard-fought, low-scoring contest. The Wreckin’ Rams dominated the second half, controlling the clock and smothering the usually explosive Cougar offense, holding them to just 7 points. A late, methodical drive by Acadiana sealed the game, as they powered to a 20-7 victory, showcasing their defensive strength and ball control.
Where We Were Wrong
#1 U-High vs #3 Catholic High
The Battle for Baton Rouge ended in overtime with the top-ranked U-High Cubs defeating No. 3 Catholic High Bears 27-21. Catholic jumped to a 14-0 lead in the first half with a wildcat run by Jayden Miles and a touchdown from Turner Goldsmith. U-High’s Emile Picarella responded, throwing three touchdown passes to bring the Cubs back, including the game-winning strike to Zay Martin on the first play of overtime. The Cubs’ defense sealed the victory by intercepting Goldsmith on Catholic’s final drive, completing a dramatic comeback and securing the win.
#8 Destrehan vs #15 ASH
Alexandria Senior High proved they are the real deal with a commanding 45-27 win over No. 8 Destrehan. The Wildcats kept it close into the fourth quarter, highlighted by a 75-yard touchdown on a screen pass from Greg Wilfred. However, LSU running back commit JT Lindsey made sure the Trojans maintained control, capping off the night with his second touchdown to secure the 45-27 lead and seal the victory for ASH.
