Ed Daniels Field
On Friday night, Muss Bertolino Stadium became home to Ed Daniels Field, a heartfelt tribute to the legendary Louisiana sports broadcaster who passed away earlier this year.
The unveiling ceremony honored Daniels’ lifelong dedication to Louisiana high school sports and his passion for storytelling which has touched countless lives across the state.
His name will now grace the field where student-athletes continue to inspire, ensuring that Ed Daniels’ legacy lives on with every game played under the lights.
Big Time Performances
Xavier Ford – Leesville
Xavier Ford with seven (7) touchdowns vs Benton on Friday night in their 48-28 victory. A note from our friend Chaston Tavares (@chaston_tavares) on X: Ford needs 1 touchdown to tie and 2 touchdowns to surpass Cecile Collins for career touchdowns at Leesville. Cecil Collins had 93 touchdowns, and Xavier has 92. I have a feeling that Ford will move past that at Iowa next week.
Ben Taylor – Airline
Ben Taylor was our GeauxPreps Offensive Player of the Week last week, and he might win it again. In a 69-68 victory over Captain Shreve, Taylor threw 580 yards, rushed for 100 yards, and threw seven touchdown passes. Kudos to Kenny Darby who was on the receiving end of four of Taylor’s seven touchdown passes on the night as well as Jarvis Davis Jr. who brought in 14 passes and 247 and two touchdowns.
Nate Sheppard – Mandeville
The Duke commit is having an absolutely absurd season. He has 27 total touchdowns through 5 games. In their 42-0 victory over Northshore, Nate had 15 carries for 306 yards and 4 touchdowns. Special thanks to Pete Vicknair for the following stats, Nate has 20 rushing touchdowns, two receiving touchdowns, 4 special teams touchdowns, and one defensive touchdown.
Gavin Ferrington – Parkway
Despite missing seven starters due to rule violations and their quarterback sidelined with injury, Parkway pulled off a 46-35 win over Byrd in a shootout. Gavin Ferrington, a Centenary lacrosse commit, stepped in from the student section to start under center and led the Panthers’ offense. Behind a strong ground game, with CJ Dudley rushing for 194 yards and Carmaro Mayo adding 170 total yards and two touchdowns, Ferrington’s was the star of the show and led the Panthers to victory in a different set of pads.
Travis Adams – Tioga
Travis Adams delivered a school record-breaking performance in Tioga’s 65-26 victory over Jena, scoring five touchdowns to set a new single-game school record. Adams was unstoppable, finding the endzone repeatedly and leading the Panthers’ offense to a huge win over Jena. His outstanding effort not only secured the win but also etched his name into Tioga’s record books.
LSU Commits Making Plays
Keylan Moses takes a fake punt to the house early in the game to swing the momentum to U-High. Keep in mind, he’s a linebacker.
JT Lindsey shows off the moves and the power in ASH’s 69-7 win over Many
John F. Kennedy Forfeits Three Games, Drops to 1-4 on Season
According to a report from The Advocate’s Chris Dabe, John F. Kennedy has forfeited three games, dropping their overall record to 1-4 for the 2024 football season.
As of now, the reasons behind the forfeitures remain unknown, as the LHSAA typically does not release details about penalties or infractions to the public.

Predictions: Where We Were right … Where We Were Wrong …

*Edna Karr and St. Augustine Play Tonight*
Where We Were Right
St. Paul’s vs #1 University
LSU commit Keylan Moses made a game-changing impact with a fake punt that resulted in a 49-yard touchdown, swinging the momentum for U-High. Despite a strong start with an 8-0 lead and extending it to 15-6 by halftime, U-High struggled with ball security, fumbling three times. St. Paul’s, also plagued by turnovers, managed to score late in the game to bring the final tally to 29-12, but it was U-High’s interception return for a 74-yard touchdown that further sealed the deal.
#6 Kentwood vs #6 Amite
The Amite Warriors secured a 28-25 victory over Kentwood in a back-and-forth matchup, racking up 326 total yards, including 244 on the ground. Despite Amite’s strong rushing attack, Kentwood put up a tough fight, totaling 322 yards of offense, with over 200 coming through the air. The game was a back-and-forth battle, but Amite’s strenghs on both sides of the ball sealed the win.
#2 Edna Karr vs #7 St. Augustine
St. Augustine started strong with quarterback Vashaun Coulon connecting with Leon Moore on a deep pass to set up a near-touchdown, followed by Jaelle Noble scoring to tie the game 7-7. However, Karr’s defense stepped up, with Arsenio Bolds Jr. intercepting Coulon, leading to a long touchdown from John Johnson to Daejawn Smith. Although Coulon responded with a deep pass to Ray’Quan Williams, Karr’s Tyrik Brigalia intercepted another red-zone attempt. Johnson found Smith again for a second touchdown, and Bryant Sanchez sealed the game with a rushing score, making it 34-7 Karr in the final quarter.
Where We Were Wrong
#15 C.E. Byrd vs Parkway
Despite missing seven starters due to team rule violations and their starting quarterback sidelined with an injury, Parkway pulled off a 46-35 victory over Byrd in a high-scoring battle. Stepping in under center was Gavin Ferrington, a Centenary lacrosse commit, who led the Panthers’ offense. Parkway’s ground game was dominant, with CJ Dudley rushing for 194 yards on 39 carries, while Carmaro Mayo contributed 78 rushing yards and 92 receiving yards, scoring two touchdowns. The victory showcased the depth of Parkway’s roster and student section, delivering an impressive win under challenging circumstances.
#3 Vermilion Catholic vs #2 Riverside
In a rematch of last year’s Select Division IV state semi-final, Vermilion Catholic came away with a 49-34 victory over Riverside. Johnathan Dartez was up to his usual tricks, scoring first and quickly moving out in front of Riverside with a 21-0 lead. The Rebels fought back but Dartez and Vermilion Catholic’s explosive plays proved too much to handle, allowing them to maintain control and secure the win.
