Close Calls and Comebacks

Ruston 41, Neville 37

In their 100th meeting, Ruston rallied from a 30-13 deficit with under 10 minutes left. Josiah Morgan’s touchdown catch with 21 seconds remaining capped the comeback for the now 6-1 Bearcats.

Franklinton 33, Abbeville 30

Abbeville nearly pulled off the upset, but four straight incompletions in the final two minutes sealed a 33-30 loss to Franklinton.

Natchitoches Central 35, Byrd 31

Owen Smith’s touchdown with 20 seconds left put Natchitoches Central ahead, and the Chiefs held off a last-second Byrd Hail Mary to win a thriller.

Hammond 20, Mandeville 17

Hammond snaps its skid vs. Mandeville. Terin Jones’ TD run got the Tornadoes rolling, and Zalen Bennett’s late score sealed it after a missed Skipper field goal at the buzzer.

Ville Platte 28, Mamou 26 (OT)

Ville Platte squeaked Mamou in overtime for its second straight win over its rival, improving to 3-4 and 2-1 in district.

Chalmette 23, Northshore 20

Breez Wilson’s late 22-yard run set up Tristan DuBose’s go-ahead field goal, and Northshore’s tying attempt sailed wide as the Owls escaped 23-20.

East Ascension 49, St. Amant 48

St. Amant QB Cooper Babin scored with two seconds left, but a missed trick-play two-point try sealed it as East Ascension survived 49-48. Jeremyah Merriweather led EA with four touchdowns and 161 yards.

St. Charles Catholic 35, Legacy (TX) 31

Skylar Edwards’ 4-yard touchdown run with 18 seconds left capped a 13-play drive as St. Charles Catholic took down Legacy. Dax Pregeant kept the Comets in it with a pick-six and kickoff return TD.
