Volleyball Power 25: St. Michael Climbs to No. 1

After the No.1 team was knocked off for a third consecutive week, St. Michael (29-1) took advantage with another spectacular week and has ascended to the No.1 position for the first time in this week’s VSN/GeauxPreps Power 25 presented by K.Miller Gems and Jewelry Brokerage.
St. Michael went a perfect 7-0 last week, beating three Power 25 opponents along the way including No.11 Dunham in the finals of the Newman Invitational Tournament on Saturday. The Warriors received seven out of a possible nine first-place votes from the statewide panel.
“I consider it an honor actually to be featured as the No.1 team in the state,” said first-year St. Michael coach Latashia Wise-Jackson. “God has been good to this team and the girls hasn’t been bad either! Just have to continue to turn the page. (I’m) really excited for this team.”
Dominican, who beat previous No.1 Mt. Carmel 3-1 (25-13, 27-25, 23-25, 25-17) Wednesday at MCA’s Pink Game received one first-place vote and moves up one spot to No.2.
Mt. Carmel, rebounded in a big way after the loss to their rivals by closing the week 4-0 winning the Country Day Tournament with a 2-0 win over No.6 Hannan in the finals.
The Volley Cubs received one first-place vote and check-in at No.3.
“We’re continuing to learn and grow in our mental toughness,” said MCA coach Taylor Ricaud. “There’s been a lot of introspection in the last five days as we figure out what it takes to bring 100% relentless effort every single match.”
Following a 6-1 week, Hannan jumped two spots to No.4 while Slidell remians at No.5
