West Monroe has named Brian West as the new head coach of its Lady Rebel Softball program, bringing home one of its most accomplished alumni to lead the next generation of student-athletes.
A 1999 graduate of West Monroe, West returns to his alma mater with a decorated background in both professional and collegiate sports, as well as a championship résumé at the high school coaching level. As a student-athlete, he helped guide the Rebels to three state championships in football and a 1999 state title in baseball.
His success on the field led to a professional baseball career after being selected 35th overall in the 1999 MLB First-Year Player Draft. West went on to win a AA World Series Championship with the Chicago White Sox organization before transitioning to college football. In 2003, he joined the LSU football team and contributed to the Tigers’ BCS National Championship run under Head Coach Nick Saban.
Most recently, West made headlines in 2024 by leading Sterlington High to a state championship in his first season as head coach.
“We’re proud to welcome Coach West back home,” said West Monroe administrators. “He embodies the tradition and excellence of West Monroe athletics and brings with him a wealth of experience at every level of the game.”
