West Monroe, Lutcher, Church Point Claim LHSAA Powerlifting State Championships in Divisions I, II, and III

KENNER – The LHSAA Division I, II, and III Powerlifting State Championships concluded over the weekend at the Ponchartrain Center in Kenner, marking New Orleans’ debut as host of the event. With 215 teams and 1,086 lifters competing across four days, the sport’s growth in Louisiana was on full display. West Monroe swept the Division I titles, with the girls led by Alora Walker (148 lbs, 945), Addyson Caskey (220 lbs, 1065), and Lydia Huckaby (SHW, 1055), while the boys were powered by Damien Sanders (275 lbs, 1750) and Christian Ponti (220 lbs, 1720). Slidell’s Cara McFarland (97 lbs, 645) and Dutchtown’s Joshua Thompson (148 lbs, 1475) also claimed individual crowns.
In Division II, Lutcher dominated both the girls’ and boys’ competitions. The girls secured their 18th straight title, fueled by Zahyra Hayes (SHW, 1135) and Colbie Mitchell (220 lbs, 995), while the boys ended St. Michael’s two-year reign, led by Isaiah Koontz (242 lbs, 1615). Standouts like Tioga’s Tamiyah Hayward (181 lbs, 985) and Pearl River’s Jesse Gonzales (181 lbs, 1470) topped their weight classes. Division III saw Church Point sweep the titles, with the girls unseating Port Allen behind Khandi Shuford (123 lbs, 915) and Brylee Batiste (198 lbs, 1260), and the boys earning their fourth straight championship with Jeremiah Boyd (275 lbs, 1705) and Braxton LeBlanc (242 lbs, 1475). Abbeville’s Aiden Brown (181 lbs, 1400) and Caldwell Parish’s Austin Worley (SHW, 1740) also shone.
