2023 Preview
With the loss of 32 seniors from last year's team, including many three-year starters that went to the 2020 Division I State Championship, this appears on paper to be a transitional year for the Byrd Yellow Jackets.
Byrd returns just two starters from last year's team, one on each side of the football. However, there are many players on both sides that did see a significant amount of playing time.
One of those returners is All-District & All-City punter and placekicker Abram Murray. The University of Miami commit was 48-for-50 on extra point attempts last season while averaging 41.6 yards per punt with a long of 66.
Non-district opponents include Pleasant Grove, TX (Sept. 1), Huntington (Sept. 8), and Calvary Baptist (Sept. 14) while the Yellow Jackets are set to host four of their seven district foes at Lee Hedges Stadium.
