2022 Preview

David Simoneaux enjoyed considerable success in his first year at the helm of the Catholic High program as the Bears rolled to a 12-1 mark and a Division I state championship.

Simoneaux will have his work cut out for him in 2022 after losing 25 seniors to graduation and retaining just nine total starters from a program that has reached the state title game for five consecutive years.

Offensively, the Bears will be stacked with skill talent including junior slinger Daniel Beale (1,993 yards, 17 TDs) whose mission is to find top target and D1 target Shelton Sampson (932 yards, 8 TDs) as well as Daniel Harden.

The defense only returns two from last year's championship team with seniors Harold Lawson and Josh Johnson tasked with carrying the load while the rest of the unit acclimates into the starting role.

A strong but tough schedule awaits the Bears who welcome out-of-state foe Our Lady of Good Counsel out of Maryland for the first game of the season along with other non-league tilts against Warren Easton, University Lab and St. Thomas More. Key district games include Liberty Magnet (Oct. 7), Woodlawn (Oct. 21) and defending Class 5A champion Zachary in Week 10.
