2022 Preview

The Lions return many key starters from a team that finished 2021 with a winning record and earned a trip to the state playoffs.

With only 13 seniors lost to graduation, the talent and experience that remains should allow this 2022 team to compete at a high-level week in and week out.

On offense, only three starters were lost from a year ago, and with 1,000-yard rusher Justin Chatman coming back to lead the ground attack, Covington will no doubt be a threat for all opposing defenses. Junior quarterback Brandon Coakley returns to lead the fray through the air.

The defense will need to find its identity early with just four starters returning. Top tackler Bryce Blackwell (128 total tackles, 1 sack, 4 INT) will be tasked with leading a new-looking Lion defensive unit.

The expectations are high for Covington in 2022 and if the Lions can navigate through a challenging schedule then they will be more than ready come playoff time. The tools are there for a memorable season.
