Team roster
The Gators haven't been able to eclipse the .500 mark in the past five seasons. With a drop in classification combined with the return of multiple skill players on each side of the ball, fourth-year coach Jeremy Foote looks forward to a much improved 2022 season.
In total, Delhi Charter returns 15 starters from a year ago, including eight on offense. Senior quarterback Chadwick Clark (1200 all-purpose yards) leads the passing attack following an impressive junior campaign while sophomore tailback Keidron Thomas returns 800 yards on the ground from his breakout performance in 2021. The only question mark will be the development of an offensive line depleted by graduation.
On defense, the Gators lose only four but return sophomore Lane Chappell (55 tackles and 3 sacks) as well as Merritt Coenen (41 tackles) to lead the unit.
With the move back to Class 1A, Delhi Charter will meet familiar foes in district play with home contests against crosstown rival Delhi, Tensas and Sicily Island while having to travel to Block and Delta Charter. Non-district competition includes Rayville, Bastrop, River Oaks, St. Frederick and LaSalle.
