2022 Preview
Team chemistry will play a key role in helping to lead East Ascension to a deep run in this year's playoffs.
Although 12 total starters return from last year's 6-4 campaign, the Spartans bring back 33 lettermen from a year ago. That experience will be needed with a strong schedule awaiting Darnell Lee's squad.
With the loss of Troy Dunn and Allen Stark on offense, the Spartans will look to senior tailback Walter Samuel to lead the ground game while junior receiver Brennon Thompson is expected to make an impact out in space.
Defensively, with six starters coming back, Antwone Foster is expected to lead the unit at the linebacker position.
East Ascension's non-district slate is arguably one of the toughest in the state with contests against some of the most tradition-ladened programs including an season opening trip to reining Class 5A champion Zachary. The Spartans make the trip up to West Monroe in Week 2 before returning home to face Destrehan and De La Salle while making another trip up north to take on Alexandria.
