2023 Preview

A new but familiar face will be roaming the Grant sidelines this fall as Jarvous Felton was named the school's head football coach in March.

Felton looks to sustain a program that was recently revitalized by former head coach Dillon Barrett, who accepted the head coaching job at Many. Although he possesses a new title, Felton is no stranger to the Cougar program. He served as the school's defensive coordinator before stepping into the head role.

With 15 total starters returning from last season, Felton looks to guide his Cougar program through a competitive 2023 slate in hopes of reaching the postseason for the third time in five years.

"Our team is built on respect, integrity, and hard work," said Felton. "We hold ourselves to high standards on and off the field. With every game, we aim to showcase our discipline, sportsmanship, and dedication. We embrace challenges as opportunities to grow, and we approach each opponent with humility and respect."

Offensively, the Cougars return six starters from a year ago, led by senior quarterback Jackson Hedrick as well as the anchor of the offensive line in senior Landon Valley. Grant will continue its spread offensive attack that helped lead them to 15 wins over the past three seasons.

The bulk of the experience lies within the defensive unit as the Cougars return all but two starters from a year ago. Nic Gradney leads the charge on the line while the secondary is led by upperclassmen Kaden Chandler, Landon Fredieu and Isaiah McKinney. In a district that includes the likes of Neville and Franklin Parish, the experience that the defense brings will be essential to competing in a tough league.

Non-district contests of note include an opening week showdown with Montgomery at home as well as contests against Marksville and West Ouachita. The Cougars are also set to make the trip up to Monroe to battle the defending Select Division IV state champion Ouachita Christian.
