2022 Preview

It's another football season in the small town of Haynesville where the legendary Golden Tornado are preparing to take the field in pursuit of the program's 18th state championship.

Veteran head coach David Franklin knows that the road to another state title in 2022 will not be easy and expects more consistency out of his young Tornado program. With a tough non-district schedule, Franklin hopes to have his team ready for a competitive district slate and another deep run in the postseason.

Offensively, the Golden Tornado returns seven starters including senior fullback Toby Franklin as well as all-state selection Kemarion Ivory who is expected to lead within the trenches on both sides. Senior J'Karius Turner and junior Alonzo Jackson are expected to add to the ground game as well while the quarterback position remains the biggest question following graduation.

On defense, nine starters return from a year ago with the unit's aggressive style of play expected to carry the team. Franklin and Ivory are expected to play key roles on defense as well.

The Golden Tornado opens the season with a pair of home games against North Webster and out-of-state foe Harmony Grove, AR. The annual showdown with Junction City, AR is slated to take place in Week 3 while Haynesville renews its historic rivalry with Oak Grove in Week 6 at home.

In district play, Haynesville hopes to avenge two league losses to reining state champion Homer and Glenbrook with other district games scheduled against Plain Dealing, Arcadia, Magnolia Charter and Ringgold.
