2022 preview
Holy Cross is primed and ready to return to its winning ways in 2022 as it preps to play its first, full regular season schedule since 2019. The Tigers will have their hands full with a loaded schedule including a season-opening trip to San Antonio to take on the Holy Cross Knights, a Christian private school that has won 75 games in the last nine seasons. Other non-district contests include home games against De La Salle and Chalmette as well as a regular-season finale trip to East St. John.
In district play, Holy Cross will meet up with the usual suspects in a bid for the coveted Catholic League title, including two road contests to open up the district slate at Rummel and John Curtis. The Tigers will then play their next four league games at Tad Gormley against St. Augustine, Brother Martin, newcomer Edna Karr and Jesuit.
Nic Saltaformaggio returns a stout defense with all 11 starters from last season as well as a talented skill position group. Senior defensive end Lance Williams, who currently has offers from in-state schools Tulane and Northwestern State looks to be the anchor of the veteran defense anchored by the likes of Ian Tate and Trent Santos, who combined for over 200 tackles in 2021, as well as defensive backs Jordan Johnson and Darian Blount. On offense, quarterback Cole Canatella, who accumulated over 1,000 yards on offense last season returns to the quarterback position while receivers Kobe Young and Krosse Johnson provide the weaponry needed to slice through the high-octane offenses that the Tigers will meet through the season.
