LOUISVILLE, Ky. – There are now two high school softball programs representing Louisiana in this week’s USA TODAY Sports/NFCA High School Super 25 poll.

The Barbe Lady Bucs (23-1) jumped into this week’s poll at the No. 10 spot after having won 20 consecutive contests that included wins overs big-time programs such as West Monroe, North DeSoto and Sam Houston.

Barbe is now listed in two national softball polls after being named the No. 25 team in the country by MaxPreps earlier in the week.

St. Amant (21-2) was right behind Barbe in the No. 11 spot after finishing 3-1 last week. Despite an extra-inning loss to West Monroe, the Lady Gators continue to impress the NFCA committee having dropped only one spot.

Both programs are ranked in the the top three of the Class 5A Power Ratings.

Barbe is set to return to action Monday at Lafayette before a district showdown at Sam Houston the next day.

St. Amant finishes up district play with a doubleheader against East Ascension next Wednesday before its contest against Division I top contender John Curtis on Thursday.

State rankings submitted by NFCA member coaches are used to compile the USA TODAY Sports/NFCA High School Super 25. Teams are chosen based on performance, roster quality and strength of schedule. In 2021, schools that are not competing will not be eligible for the poll.
