Cedar Creek, Lutcher, Many Take Home State Powerlifting Titles On First Day of Meet

MONROE – Three schools took home some powerlifting hardware as the sun set on the first day of the LHSAA Powerlifting State Meet in Monroe.

In Division III, Lutcher clinched the state title with 38 points while Iota finished close behind with 34 points.

The Bulldogs had four individual state championship recipients that helped propel their school to its first state title since 2010. Marty Riley finished in the top spot at 148 pounds, Rasuan Storks won the 198, Brandon Boudwin at 275 and Bryce Scott in the Super Heavyweight division.

The Many Tigers took home the Division IV title with 32 points with Pope John Paul II finishing as the state’s runner-up with 26 points.

Thursday’s state championship win was the first in Many’s school history while the Tigers placed six Top 3 individual finishes including London Williams state title victory at 165 pounds.

Following a neck-and-neck battle all afternoon, it was the Cougars of Cedar Creek who outlasted and upended two-time defending champion Calvary Baptist for the Division V title.

Cedar Creek finished with 55 points as Calvary Baptist trailed close behind with 47. The overall state title is the sixth in school history and first since 2006.

The Cougars have an impressive five individual state champions with Lawson Lilli at 123, Jed Worthey at 132, Jackson Cuthbert at 220, Caden Lillo at 242 and Trace Barnett at 275.

Calvary Baptist finished with three individual champions.
