Lafayette Christian is the proverbial new kid on the block but has earned the respect of many through the last few seasons. Notre Dame is one of the best football programs in the state of Louisiana. Welsh is a team that you can expect to meet late in November and possibly in the Mercedes-Benz Superdome.

Lake Arthur and Port Barre each hangs its hat on the fact that it can compete with some of the toughest programs in the state.

You combine all five of those teams and get what the computer’s declare the strongest district in Class 2A.

District 6-2A has become one of the best leagues to compete in over the last few seasons and not just in football. Between all five schools, there are a combined six state championships that have been won in the last decade. (Welsh – 2017, Notre Dame – 2015 & 2018, Lafayette Christian – 2017-2019)

If you add in Lake Arthur’s playoff streak of 11 consecutive years and Port Barre’s continued improvement within the last three years then you have a district that is comprised of tough competition each week.

According to Fizz Rankings’ numbers, District 6-2A averaged a 41.905 power ranking. Lafayette Christian captured its third consecutive state title last season while Notre Dame came up short in the Division III quarterfinals despite regular season wins against two Class 5A squads and Class 4A’s Teurlings Catholic. Lake Arthur, Port Barre and Welsh all made playoff appearances in the Class 2A postseason.

Running close behind was District 8-2A which tabulated a 41.270 power ranking. Leading the pack for that district is Dunham, Episcopal and East Feliciana. Other league members were Capitol, Northeast and Port Allen.
