This week’s GeauxPreps Football Players of the Week honors are presented by Chevyland.com and awarded to two deserving student-athletes who served as game-changers for their respective schools.
Offensive Player of the Week: Chase Lewis, Varnado – Senior Fullback
Varnado’s Chase Lewis, a senior fullback, made a triumphant return to the field after overcoming a medical issue that sidelined him for two games earlier this year. His comeback was remarkable as he took the field in a high-pressure situation. The Wildcats had to play a pair of games in just five days, including a game that was rescheduled to Monday due to technical issues. In his first game back, Lewis shone brightly, scoring three times – twice on offense and once on defense. In the team’s second game in a matter of days, he showcased his versatility by making three receptions for 144 yards and scoring two touchdowns.
Chase Lewis’s resilience and exceptional performance in the face of adversity were crucial in helping his team secure two wins in the same week. His unwavering dedication and impact on both sides of the ball make him a well-deserving offensive Player of the Week.
Defensive Player of the Week: Casey Rizzi, Metairie Park Country Day – Senior Defensive Lineman
Casey Rizzi, a senior defensive lineman for Metairie Park Country Day, displayed his prowess on the defensive side of the ball in a commanding victory over Willow School, with a final score of 38-14. Rizzi was instrumental in leading the Cajuns to this impressive win, recording six tackles, three of which were for a loss. He exhibited his ability to pressure the opposing quarterback by sacking him twice for a combined loss of 17 yards.
One of the standout moments of Rizzi’s performance came when he recovered a forced fumble and returned it an astounding 80 yards, further solidifying his impact on the game. Notably, Rizzi is not just a defensive standout; he also plays a significant role as Country Day’s starting center and long snapper, showcasing his versatility and commitment to his team.
Casey Rizzi’s exceptional defensive contributions and multi-faceted role make him deserving of the defensive Player of the Week award.
These two student-athletes, Chase Lewis and Casey Rizzi, have demonstrated outstanding dedication, skill, and resilience on the football field. Their performances have not only earned them the Player of the Week titles but have also made a significant impact on their respective teams’ successes. Congratulations to both Chase and Casey for their exceptional achievements in high school football.
