Destrehan’s Gracie Bourgeois has been named the Softball Player of the Week, an accolade presented by Visit Lake Charles, for her remarkable performance on the diamond. The freshman first baseman showcased an unparalleled level of skill, leaving an indelible mark with her exceptional contributions to her team’s success.

Bourgeois demonstrated unwavering excellence throughout the week, amassing an impressive batting average of .933 by going 14-for-15 at the plate. Her consistency and precision were unparalleled as she turned nearly every opportunity into a scoring play. What’s even more astounding is that six of her hits were extra-base efforts, highlighting her ability to deliver crucial hits in pivotal moments of the game.

Not content with just hitting, Bourgeois also proved to be a force on the base paths, successfully stealing bases in all four attempts, further showcasing her agility and strategic prowess on the field. Her dynamic performance wasn’t limited to individual success, as she also played a pivotal role in driving in 12 runs and crossing the plate nine times herself, underscoring her invaluable contribution to her team’s offensive firepower.

Destrehan’s success this season can also be attributed to the guidance of assistant coach Paul Waguespack, a distinguished figure in Louisiana softball circles. With Waguespack’s wealth of experience and expertise as the team’s hitting coach, the Wildcats, featuring a youthful lineup including Bourgeois and four other freshmen, have flourished on the field. Under his tutelage, the team has overcome adversity from the previous season, transforming a losing campaign into a commendable 23-7 record this year.
