Dutchtown Makes History, St. Michael and Church Point Secure Back-to-Back Titles at LHSAA State Powerlifting Championships

LAFAYETTE – The final day of the LHSAA state powerlifting championships witnessed historic moments as Dutchtown clinched its first-ever Division I title while St. Michael the Archangel and Church Point continued their championship streaks in Divisions II and III respectively.

In Division I, Dutchtown’s lifting squad secured a landmark victory, marking its inaugural placement in the top three. The Griffins amassed 33 points, fueled by four individual state championships. Notably, Nathan Lovemore emerged as the Most Outstanding Lifter in the 114-165 weight class, boasting an impressive Wilks score of 1168.1. Meanwhile, West Monroe claimed second place with 29 points, extending its streak of top-three finishes to four consecutive years.

Over in Division II, St. Michael retained its state title with a total of 33 points. The program’s triumph was highlighted by a first-place finish and a runner-up position. Lutcher closely followed in the standings, securing the runner-up position with 32 points.

The standout performance of the day came from Salmen’s Dwayne Coleman, who shattered multiple composite records with a staggering lift of 2,005 pounds. Coleman’s remarkable feat earned him the Outstanding Lifter accolade for Division II, alongside championship honors in the Super Heavyweight class. Meanwhile, Leesville’s Izaiah Farley clinched the Outstanding Lifter title in the 114 to 165-pound class for Division II.

In Division III, Church Point continued its legacy by clinching a second consecutive state title and 10th overall in school history. The Bears dominated the competition with a commanding 58-point performance, including four individual state championships. Wyatt Daigle of Church Point stood out, securing the Outstanding Lifter honors with a lift of 1,625 pounds in the 242-pound weight class.

Abbeville’s Carter Robertson impressed in the 114 to 165-pound weight class, earning the Outstanding Lifter title for Division III with a remarkable Wilks score of 978.95.
