One of the nation’s top young quarterbacks is staying home. Evangel’s Peyton Houston, a 2027 prospect, announced his commitment to LSU on Monday.

The 5-foot-10.5, 198-pound signal-caller chose LSU over his other finalists, Oklahoma and USC, after visiting Baton Rouge on Saturday for the Tigers’ battle with Florida. By staying in-state, Houston becomes one of the first elite quarterbacks in the 2027 class to make a college decision, and Brian Kelly’s staff keeps a coveted Louisiana product close to home.

“Every player in the state of Louisiana dreams of that offer. It means a lot

Ranked as the No. 14 quarterback and No. 9 overall prospect in Louisiana by 247Sports, Houston is also rated the No. 8 quarterback nationally and the No. 5 player in Louisiana by On3, which lists him as the No. 94 overall prospect in the country.

As a sophomore, Houston passed for 4,480 yards and 38 touchdowns with just six interceptions on 310-of-443 attempts (70%). He added 690 rushing yards and seven scores, averaging 6.6 yards per carry.

His 4,480 passing yards set a Class 5A record. Houston earned first-team all-district honors, was selected as LSWA first-team all-state, and was named to the LFCA second-team all-state.

His breakout moment came in a record-breaking performance against Captain Shreve last season, when he threw for 817 yards and eight touchdowns, adding two more scores on the ground in one of the most memorable individual performances in Louisiana high school football history.

Houston now sets the tone as one of the first dominoes to fall in the 2027 quarterback class.
