By Hunter Bower // GeauxPreps.com Owner

As the high school football season charges forward, excitement and anticipation are reaching a fever pitch. Week five brought a whirlwind of action, unpredictability, and sensational plays that had fans on the edge of their seats.

In Class 5A, the prep football landscape saw a major shakeup as John Curtis, previously undefeated, suffered a heart-wrenching last-second loss to Holy Cross in Catholic League action. This loss not only ended their eight-game winning streak but also relinquished their top spot in the rankings. Destrehan, on the other hand, soared to the No. 1 position after securing their 19th consecutive victory on Friday. Airline also made a noteworthy entrance into the top-10 this season, boasting a perfect 5-0 record and establishing themselves as one of the few remaining undefeated teams in northwest Louisiana.

In Class 4A, Neville and Westgate experienced a dip in the rankings following their first losses of the season. The top three spots are now occupied by St. Thomas More, Lafayette Christian, and Warren Easton, who continue to impress on the gridiron.

Class 3A saw Jena making a significant move into the top-5 after delivering a resounding 28-6 victory over the previously unbeaten Tioga during the weekend. University Lab still reigns supreme in the rankings, while E.D. White remains the only other undefeated team in the poll.

In Class 2A, St. Charles and Calvary maintain their positions as the top two teams after securing impressive victories, including Calvary’s triumph over Class 4A opponent Westgate. However, Dunham slipped to No. 6 following a non-district loss to Kentwood.

Finally, in Class 1A, the poll remained largely unchanged, except for the No. 10 spot, which was claimed by St. Mary’s. Notably, four undefeated teams continue to grace the top-10, with Ouachita Christian and Vermilion Catholic leading the way.
