Hamilton Christian’s Knight, E.D. White’s Escher Pick Up Football Player of the Week Honors

This week’s GeauxPreps Football Players of the Week honors are presented by Chevyland.com and awarded to two deserving student-athletes who served as game changers for their respective schools.
Offense: Sammy Knight, Hamilton Christian – QB – Senior
In a pivotal district showdown, Hamilton Christian’s senior quarterback Sammy Knight rose to the occasion and showcased his exceptional talents to lead the Warriors to a resounding victory over East Beauregard. Knight’s performance was nothing short of extraordinary as he accounted for all eight of his team’s touchdowns and amassed a staggering 453 total yards. On the ground, he averaged a jaw-dropping 20 yards per carry, racking up 256 yards rushing and notching four touchdowns. Through the air, Knight continued his offensive onslaught, amassing 197 yards and adding four more touchdowns. His stellar performance not only secured the win but also elevated Hamilton Christian’s postseason prospects. With a crucial district finale against Elton on the horizon, Sammy Knight’s standout performance was a testament to his skill and leadership on the field.
Defense: Matthew Escher, E.D. White – DB – Senior
In a thrilling non-district battle against the formidable Sam Houston squad, senior defensive back Matthew Escher of E.D. White proved to be the defensive hero of the game. The Cardinals emerged victorious with a final score of 45-31, and Escher’s contribution was pivotal. With under 20 seconds remaining and Sam Houston threatening, Escher made a game-changing play by intercepting the ball at the goal line, securing the win for his team. Throughout the game, he demonstrated his defensive prowess, tallying seven tackles, including two for a loss, and notching two pass breakups. Escher’s performance helped boost the Cardinals in the power ratings as they now prepare for a crucial district title match against St. James. His ability to come through in clutch moments and make critical plays on the defensive end was truly remarkable.
These outstanding student-athletes, Sammy Knight and Matthew Escher, have proven themselves as invaluable assets to their respective teams, and their remarkable performances have earned them the prestigious title of GeauxPreps Football Players of the Week, presented by Chevyland.com.
