BATON ROUGE – High school wrestling in the state of Louisiana has been put on hold.

The Louisiana High School Athletic Association (LHSAA) announced in a memo to its member schools Tuesday afternoon that it has ended the regular season for the sport as a precaution to prevent any further outbreaks.

Plans to hold the state tournament for wrestling is still set for Feb. 25-26 at the Raising Canes River Center in Baton Rouge.

The decision comes just days after the Louisiana Department of Health released an announcement stating that the annual Louisiana Classic wrestling tournament held Jan. 15-16 contributed to multiple COVID cases amongst those in attendance.

LHSAA Commissioner Eddie Bonine is scheduled to meet with the media Wednesday morning at 10AM to discuss the announcement.
