BATON ROUGE — LSU Football has tapped one of Louisiana’s most respected coaching figures to serve as its new Director of High School Relations, with longtime teacher, coach, and administrator Eric Held stepping into the role. The hire was first reported by On3’s Shea Dixon.
A graduate of Brother Martin, Held brings with him 24 years of experience on the sidelines and in the classroom, along with a deep-rooted understanding of the state’s high school football landscape. Since 1995, he has been a dedicated member of both the Louisiana High School Coaches Association (LHSCA) and the Louisiana Football Coaches Association (LFCA), consistently advocating for coaches and student-athletes across the state.

Held compiled a 49-27 record as a head coach, leading both St. Mary’s and St. Michael the Archangel to the playoffs in each of his seven seasons. In 2013, he joined Catholic High of Baton Rouge, working with special teams and running backs. He was instrumental in helping the Bears capture their first-ever state championship in 2015.
In February 2019, Held transitioned to a statewide leadership role when he was hired by the LHSAA/LHSCA as the Director of the Louisiana Coaches Association, where he provided a strong voice for coaches across Louisiana. He also served as the Director of Golf for the association.
Those who’ve worked alongside Held over the years point to his work ethic, humility, and his unshakable love for Louisiana high school athletics. Now, he’ll bring that same passion to LSU’s football program, helping to foster relationships with high school coaches across the state — an essential piece in recruiting and sustaining homegrown success in Baton Rouge.
