LAKE CHARLES – After four seasons at the helm of the storied St. Louis Catholic baseball program, Matt Fontenot has officially stepped down as head coach to pursue other opportunities.

Fontenot led a resurgence during his tenure, guiding the Saints to 79 wins, multiple district championships and a memorable state title run in 2021. It was the school’s first championship in 10 years and fourth overall.

Despite the 2020 season being cut short due to the CoVID-19 pandemic, Fontenot led his squads to the state tournament in Sulphur in his three seasons at the helm. In 2023, St. Louis finished 27-7 on the year with an appearance in the semifinals.

A graduate of St. Louis in 2005, Fontenot served as an assistant with the Saints in 2012 before returning to the Lake Area to take the head coaching position in 2019. He was named the LSWA Coach of the Year in 2021 for his championship-winning leadership.
