Lake Charles College Prep senior defensive back Erick Franklin Jr. committed to play college football at Stephen F. Austin Friday after officially visiting the school.
Franklin chose the Lumberjacks over Memphis, Troy and Arkansas State.
“I liked how the coaching staff has been honest with me ever since they first contacted me,” he said of SFA.
“(On the visit) I enjoyed meeting the coaches. I got to talk to some of the players, who were really cool.”
Franklin said he will bring a lot to the table for the Lumberjacks.
“I’m smart, fast and can make plays in any spot on the field,” he said. “I have range and am disciplined. I get in and out of my breaks really fast. And, last but not least, I’m a great teammate.”
Franklin has big goals in mind for his last season with the Blazers.
“10 interceptions, 90 tackles, 2 forced fumbles, 2 fumble recoveries, 8 pass breakups, and a championship ring,” he said.
As a junior, Franklin had 81 tackles, 6 interceptions, 9 pass breakups and 7 tackles for loss. He has earned first-team all-district honors each of the past two seasons and is ranked as a 3-star recruit and the No. 62 prospect in the state by On3.com.
Franklin has helped the Blazers go 23-10 over his first three seasons, making 156 total tackles.
SFA went 6-5 last season, including a 3-1 record in the Western Athletic Conference.
