Tennis Champions Crowned on Final Day of LHSAA Division I & II Tournaments

MONROE – Four champions were crowned Tuesday following the conclusion of the LHSAA Divisions I and II state tennis tournaments on the campus of ULM in Monroe.
St. Joseph’s repeated as girls tennis champions in Division I with a total of 13.5 points while C.E. Byrd finished second with 11 total points. Sophia Manuel and Caroline Pousson took home the doubles title for the Redstickers while Mandeville’s Natalie Devraj was crowned the individual champion.
For the Division I boys tournament, St. Paul’s collected 15 points on the heels of runner-up finishes in both singles and doubles action while Steven Rice of Barbe took home singles championship honors and Brother Martin’s Mark and Mitchell Armbruster were crowned doubles champions.
In Division II, Neville dethroned defending champion St. Thomas More with a total of 15 points to the Cougars’ 13 points. STM swept both singles and doubles championship honors as Mason Landreth defeated Neville’s Mitchell Spence while the team of Ben Davis and John David McCoy defeated Benton Anzalone and Christian Williams.
In the girls division, the Willow School tallied 16 points to take home the team state championship title while runner-up Neville collected 12.5 points. My-Anh Holmes of Willow School was crowned singles champion while the team of Avery Lewis and Sydeny Smyczynski of Archbishop Hannan won state honors in doubles.
Divisions III and IV begin play Wednesday morning and are set to conclude with championship matchups on Thursday.
