LAKE CHARLES – Louisiana high school football has now reached the halfway point of its modified season. However, a few upsets and outstanding performances caused some movement in the GeauxPreps.com Football Top 10 Polls powered by The Tim Fletcher Show.
Acadiana (Class 5A), Edna Karr (Class 4A), De La Salle (Class 3A), Lafayette Christian (Class 2A) and Ouachita Christian (Class 1A) all held on to the top spot in their respective classes following impressive victories over the weekend.
In Class 5A, the Wreckin’ Rams of Acadiana earned an impressive 24-10 road win over a tough Ruston squad despite inclement weather throughout the evening. With the victory, Acadiana extended its winning streak to 19 games, the longest in the state. In other 5A action, Brother Martin ended Rummel’s 15-game win streak in a 26-23 defeat to take over the No. 3 spot while East St. John and C.E. Byrd entered the Top 10 for the first time this season.
The Class 4A poll saw no change in the top four spots while teams such as Eunice and Minden continued to climb following impressive victories in district competition. The state’s fourth highest classification welcomed Tioga and Bastrop into the Top 10 poll.
Class 3A remained mostly unchanged after the weekend but a Union Parish win over Sterlington saw the Fighting Farmers climb to the No. 7 spot while the Panthers fell to No. 9.
St. Charles’ loss to Class 3A’s top-ranked De La Salle resulted in a shuffle within the top five of the Class 2A poll. Many now sits at No. 3 and Ferriday at No. 4 while the Comets of St. Charles fell to No. 5.
Ouachita Christian extended its consecutive win streak to 16 following a 50-20 district win over Cedar Creek. The Eagles are flanked by Oak Grove and Calvary Baptist while Logansport and Vermilion Catholic round out the top five. The newest addition to the poll is St. Edmund who scored a huge victory over Class 5A Natchitoches Central at home on Friday. The Blue Jays are now 2-1 on the season.
