2022 Preview

There is one constant in Louisiana high school football and that is Iota is always in the mix of the state playoffs come November.

2022 should be no different as the Bulldogs reload with 17 total starters returning to build upon its 8-win performance from a year ago. One difference is the makeup of the coaching staff roaming the sidelines as Ray Aucoin takes over the program as head coach following the departure of Josh Andrus.

In his first season, Aucoin hopes to be competitive and physical in all aspects of the game. Offensively, the Bulldogs lose four starters including their quarterback and running back as well as a couple of linemen. A new quarterback must step up soon to lead the Bulldogs against a competitive non-district schedule. Junior receiver Dylan Callahan will be a top target for whoever receives the starting nod under center. Callahan caught 23 passes in 2021 and scored six times.

On defense, Iota will be tough to defend with the loss of just one starter from 2021. Aucoin hopes to have his Bulldogs attacking viciously while stopping the run in hopes of giving the special teams an opportunity to show their skills. Senior defensive back Luke Duhon will be looked to as a leader inside the unit as he returns 13 interceptions worth of production from last season.

Iowa, St. Louis, Crowley and Jennings make up the pre-district portion of the Bulldogs' 2022 schedule while trips to Ville Platte, Northwest, and Port Barre highlight the district schedule. Iota will host Pine Prairie, Mamou and Church Point in league play.
