2022 Preview

Jewel Sumner continues to build the program up following back-to-back playoff appearances doubling their win total compared to the last three seasons combined.

With nine starters returning on offense, the Cowboys will have to rely on an experienced unit that should be able to put points on the board. WR/DB Rodney Brown teams with returning receiver Kameron Cook to give the team a 1-2 punch through the air while Darren Thomas returns to lead the ground attack.

On defense, a lack of returning starters forces Sumner to mature quickly as only two return from last season. Sophomore Kendell Brown is one of the many underclassmen expected to step up and lead the charge while Brown, who led the team with 4 interceptions and two returned for a touchdown will be amongst the leaders in the defensive backfield.

Early season contests against Kentwood and South Plaquemine will test the Cowboy's true mettle before a tough district slate approaches quickly with the likes of Amite and Bogalusa awaiting in the trenches.
